It's been a while since the last release of Driver Sweeper. What happened to Driver Sweeper?
The latest version was released on 23-09-07, this was half a year ago. What happened in the mean time?
Some people reported some bugs about Creative Sound and NVIDIA LAN driver, they were fixed long time ago already, but today there is still no new release of Driver Sweeper.
There are a couple of reasons for that. I have limited time to spend on Driver Sweeper, and I don't want to spend all my free time on Driver Sweeper. After all it's just a project I like to do, not something I do and want to work on with a strict schedule.
Users also asked me for some new features, like adding custom filters, selecting which items to clean, a message when cleaning has been finished and the "Clean" button back.
Besides this, I also had some things I wanted in the next version. I didn't liked the current layout and have been looking for other solutions to get a good looking and easy to use layout. An update function would be nice as well.
I told people a lot of times I will release more information about the next version soon, but I just didn't got the time to write a nice article for it.
Now, let's start with some screenshots from the current build of Driver Sweeper, which is currently tagged as 1.2 (Not final yet). As you can see I completely redone the layout of Driver Sweeper. This new layout is easier to navigate and easier to use.
What else has been changed?
I added the ability to add custom filters, as you can see on the last screenshot. It's easy to use and easy to change. It's also possible to use System Environment variables, like %Systemroot%. You can use Driver Sweeper to clean almost everything, also items not related to drivers.
On the second screenshot you can see that it's now possible to select the items you want to clean (If you selected Analyse). If you selected Clean it's just like any previous version of Driver Sweeper. Unlike previous versions the progressbar works as it should be. If you selected not to reboot you also get a message that cleaning has been finished.
Some people might spot Update at the third screenshot. At the moment I don't know if I enable it in the next version. Having an update function requires additional bandwidth and webspace and I'm not sure if I can arrange that or if Hilbert from Guru3D wants to provide me in that. This all depends on what I can get, I haven't asked anyone yet.
What about the current build, does it work?
Yes, the current build works fine and is error free as far as I tested. However, there is still some work to be done. All translations need an update and the Help and Readme files as well.
There are also some minor things left.
I promised the next version will be well worth the wait, and it will be.
It will turn up sooner or later.
Thanks for reading,
